Canton Validator Operations

Your way onto the Canton Network

We run Canton validators so you don't have to. Get a validator of your own — applied for, set up and operated by us — or launch your app on our infrastructure without running one.

Validator management

Your own Canton validator. We handle everything.

Send us a few company details. We take care of the rest — the application, the sponsor, the infrastructure, the setup and the day-to-day operation. Your validator, your traffic, your rewards.

📤

You send

  • Corporate email domain
  • Company details for the Canton Foundation application
  • Canton Coin for your validator's network traffic
⚙️

We handle

  • Canton Foundation application
  • Sponsor coordination and IP whitelisting
  • Server provisioning and full setup
  • DevNet → TestNet → MainNet
  • Upgrades, 24/7 monitoring, backups, traffic top-ups
🏆

You own

  • A fully running validator, configured end to end and connected to Canton MainNet
  • Full admin access — your validator's endpoints and your own admin login, so your team, your wallets and custody providers such as Dfns can work with it directly
  • Your validator's identity and wallet on the network — its traffic and rewards are yours
  • A team behind it — upgrades, monitoring and a monthly report on uptime, traffic and rewards

Developer Access

Launch your app without running a validator

Your app's parties and code run on our multi-tenant MainNet validator, kept separate from every other customer. You keep your keys, use the full Ledger API for your parties, and we handle the network traffic.

  • Parties created from your own keys — only you can sign
  • Full Ledger API: queries, live updates, signed transactions
  • Bring your own Daml app — submit your package for a fast review and we'll have it running
  • Network traffic handled and billed from your Canton Coin credit
bash
# 1. Get an access token
curl -s -X POST \
  https://<auth-host>/realms/customers/\
protocol/openid-connect/token \
  -d grant_type=client_credentials \
  -d client_id=$CLIENT_ID \
  -d client_secret=$CLIENT_SECRET

# 2. Call the Ledger API
curl -s https://<api-host>/v2/version \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN"

Works with the standard Canton Wallet SDK.

Common questions

What is the Canton Network?
A public blockchain network built for regulated finance, with privacy built in: each participant sees only the data it is entitled to.
What is a validator?
Your gateway to the Canton Network. It hosts your parties, runs your app's code, validates your transactions and connects to the network.
What does "multi-tenant validator" mean?
One validator shared by multiple customers, like an apartment building: each customer has their own space — parties, keys, app and credentials — and can't see or act for anyone else. We run the building.
Why can't I just use a wallet to build my app?
Wallets give you a party and a limited set of wallet functions — mainly holding, sending and receiving tokens. They don't give you the full Ledger API: querying your own contracts, streaming every update, or submitting your own commands. And they don't run your app's code. With Developer Access you get both.
What do I receive with a Managed Validator?
Full admin access to your running validator: your validator API and Ledger API endpoints, plus an OAuth login (auth domain, token path, audience, client ID and client secret). You also get your validator's party and wallet. You can connect custody providers, wallets or your own applications.
Can you help my app become a Featured App?
Yes. We help you check eligibility, set up your app's party, prepare the application and presentation, and explain the CC lock requirement (5,000,000 CC for most apps; 25,000,000 CC for asset issuers). The Canton Foundation makes the decision.
How does payment and onboarding start?
You pay the one-time €999 setup fee in Canton Coin and we start right away: the application, sponsor coordination and setup. Your monthly payments begin on the day your validator goes live on MainNet.
How do I pay?
In Canton Coin. Prices are shown in euros and charged in CC at the rate on the day of payment.
What are network traffic fees?
Every transaction on Canton uses network traffic, paid in Canton Coin. On Experimenter, traffic is included within fair use. On Builder and Startup, it's charged from your Canton Coin credit. A Managed Validator pays its own traffic from its own balance, and we keep it topped up.
Can I start on DevNet or TestNet?
Developer Access runs on MainNet. Managed Validators always go through DevNet and TestNet before MainNet.
How long does a Managed Validator take?
Usually 3–5 weeks, mostly the Canton Foundation review and the DevNet → TestNet → MainNet steps. Approval and timing are decided by the Canton Foundation and the sponsor.
Do I need a sponsor?
A validator needs a sponsoring Super Validator. We coordinate this as part of the application.
Can I move from Developer Access to my own validator?
Yes. We set up your Managed Validator and help move your app and parties. Party migration is still maturing on Canton, so we plan it with you step by step.
Is there staking on Canton?
No. Canton Coin is not staked. Rewards come from activity on the network.
